Songs To Listen To After A Break-up

I know some people like to listen to sad songs about love after a break-up but because I’ve always tried to fight this sadness and depression, I found other types of song to listen to after a break-up, more empowering than sad. Let’s be honest, most of these songs are no masterpieces. However, their lyrics can be really empowering. They talk about having confidence instead of feeling sorry for yourself, they talk about being strong instead of getting down.

So here is my list of 12 songs to listen to when someone breaks your heart:

1. Beyonce – Best Thing You Never Had

“You don’t deserve my tears, I guess that’s why they ain’t there.”

“Thank God I found the good in goodbye.”

2. Justin Timberlake – What Goes Around…Comes Around

3. Aerosmith – Don’t Get Mad, Get Even

4. Timbaland ft. One Republic – Apologize

“Tell me that you’re sorry, didn’t think I’d turn around and say ‘It’s too late to apologize'”

“I loved you with a fire red, now it’s turning blue.”

5- Kelly Clarkson – Since U Been Gone

“But since you’ve been gone, I can breathe for the first time.”

“You had your chance, you blew it. Out of sight, out of mind.”

6- Richie Kotzen – Let’s Say Goodbye

“Look in my eyes and I’ll know it’s over and I will go on from right here with the rest of my life.”

7- Lúcia Moniz ft Nuno Bettencourt – Try Again

“I can’t believe you’d say these things if you’re in love with me. Try again.

I never thought you’d ever say those awful things to me. Try again.”

8 – Jennifer Lopez ft LL Cool J – All I Have

“It’s such a shame but I’m leaving, can’t take the way you mistreated me.”

“My pride is all I have. You’ll be needing me but too bad.”

9 – Joss Stone – You Had Me

Hey listen, you’ll be missing out on my love and my kissing.”

“You had me, you lost me, you’re wasted, you cost me. I don’t want you here messing with my mind.”

10 – Beyonce – Irreplaceable

“I can have another you by tomorrow. So don’t you ever for a second get to thinking you’re irreplaceable.”

“So since I’m not you’re everything, how about I’ll be nothing?”

11- Christina Perri – Jar Of Hearts

“Don’t you know I’m not your ghost anymore? You lost the love I loved the most.”

“I have grown too strong to ever fall back in your arms.”

12- The Corrs – I Never Loved You Anyway

“I can’t believe I endured you for as long as I did.

I’m happy it’s over, I’m only sorry that I didn’t make the move before you.”

Thank You

I live in the UK and here these two little words (together with Sorryare probably the most spoken ones. People might be considered over-polite here sometimes. When I lived in Brazil, no one used to thank the bus driver. Some people might do it but it’s just not part of the culture there. In the city where I lived, you left the bus through the back so even if you wanted to thank them, you wouldn’t be able to. Anyway, after living here, saying “Thank You” (or “Cheers”) became automatic. So today, I got the bus home and as I was getting off I said my usual  “Thank You” to the bus driver. However, for some reason, it got me thinking this time. Why am I thanking him? Is it `Thank you for stopping for me`? Is it `Thank you for taking me to this place I needed to go`? Is it `Thank you for being a bus driver`? But then I’d just be thanking him for doing his job. Hmm, and that’s exactly what it is. And why not? Why not thank someone to do their job? We thank the shop assistants after they served us here, the waiters when they bring the food, the taxi drivers, delivery people, etc. Thanks for working with this. If you didn’t have this job, I wouldn’t get this service I need.

I’m a teacher and when I teach people, you could say I am only doing my job. However, I can’t help but feel better after a tiring day when my students leave the classroom and say…guess?…”Thank You”. And I can’t help but smile when I receive feedback from the students and at the end of the page there’s a big “Thank You” and a happy face.

So that’s my post today. Let’s thank away. These two little words are so easy to say and can make someone’s job a little bit worthier.

And thank you all my readers for making this blog so meaningful to me =)

thank you note for every language

Find Your Own Path In Life

“People take different roads seeking fulfilment and happiness. Just because they’re not on your road doesn’t mean they’ve gotten lost.”

H. Jackson Browne

There are two things to be learned from this quote:

1- We need to follow our own path. People will try to convince us that we are on the wrong path all the time. Not because they want to cause us any harm but because sometimes they really believe that. Some people fail to understand that each person has their own needs and wishes and they hardly ever will be the same as someone else’s. That’s why only we can build the way to our happiness. People can try to help but we have to really look within ourselves to find out what makes us happy. It might seem easier to join someone on their road but some of the greatest things in life don’t come easily.

2- We need to let others follow their own path. Sometimes we are the ones who fail to understand this truth. We want to help people find their ways and forget that we don’t even know what their way is. Other people’s wishes and ways might seem unnatural to us. How can they want the exact opposite of me? But we need to learn to accept this. We can’t control other people and we shouldn’t try because it will be really frustrating for them and for us. We want other people to walk the same road as us because we are afraid to walk it alone.

Food Can Make You Happy

When we’re feeling down, sometimes all we want is a bar of chocolate to make us feel better. But does it actually work? Or is it just psychological, just comfort? Can food actually improve our mood? Hell yeah! Scientists have found out the secret to why some types of food make us feel good. Apparently, some flavours found in comfort foods are chemically similar to mood enhancing drugs. Therefore, they could have a similar effect.

Now let’s move on to what really matters. What are these ‘happy foods’ or ‘feelgood foods’?

  1. Chocolate
No wonder that’s what we crave when we are feeling depressed.

  2. Tea
On a cold rainy day or after a hard day at work or those times when we don’t feel like going out, a cup of tea seems to be all we need in the world. Now we know why.

Tea-bag. It is made of a special type of nonwo...

  3. Berries – strawberry, raspberry and blueberry
Aphrodisiacs? Well, I guess more chances of wanting sex if you’re in a good mood.

Happiness Is A Choice

“People universally tend to think that happiness is a stroke of luck, something that will maybe descend upon you like fine weather if you’re fortunate enough. But that’s not how happiness works. Happiness is the consequence of personal effort. You fight for it, strive for it, insist upon it, and sometimes even travel around the world looking for it.”Eat Pray Love

I really love this quote because it explains the whole point that led me to research about happiness and consequently the reason why I have this blog. I think you need to fight for happiness and not just wait for it to fall into your lap. Sometimes that means you have to make changes. They might be big changes: quitting your job, getting a divorce, moving to another country , travelling the world. Or small changes: sleeping well, waking up earlier, taking up a course, going out more. But sometimes that fight for happiness doesn’t necessarily mean you have to actively do something. Sometimes the effort you have to make is to actually practise acceptance. Instead of fighting against your present situation, you have to accept it and make peace with it in order to find happiness.

I don’t think it’s a choice in the sense that you can just decide “I’m happy now” and you automatically become happy but I think it’s a choice to go after it.

I have been striving for happiness, reading about it, trying different things, making changes. And you might ask me: is it helping? Absolutely! I did go through a rough patch even though I was looking for happiness. I felt like giving up but I didn’t and now I’m finally reaping the rewards of my efforts. I believe that this is the meaning of the quote. You need to try hard to find happiness even if it’s not something you do consciously. Most people don’t wake up one day and think “I’m going on a search for happiness.” However, happy people have decided at some point in their lives consciously or unconsciously to go after what they want, to practise acceptance, to find contentment, etc. I believe it’s more difficult for some people than it is for others. That can happen for various reasons. Maybe your brain, your family or your circumstances don’t help but it is there for you to find. We can all get it if we try hard enough.
